I've more than doubled my range of clothes by buying $15 worth of secondhand clothing from the Salvation Army. Now I look like the back pages of the New York Times Fashion magazine: all disaffected knitwear, vertical stripes and the kind of trousers you cross your legs in. It's the best of all possible clothes.
