Yesterday the shinkansen from Akita was delayed two hours by very heavy rain and at Tokyo we got fasttracked by a guard through the crowds to the Nozomi train to Kyoto. He led us with a green flag and an "on alert" florescent armband. The news about the travel chaos in London had come through the ticker display in the train carriage, but seems distant. Today, the crowds at Ginkakuji thinned at five - it was serene for a few moments... and there is the white sand, undisturbed but for burrowing wasps, there is order, nature bending to will, a temple and reflections in water.
