Went to a wedding in Merton College. Really pleasant day. Also been thinking about Children of Men from Wednesday.
Children of Men isn't a great film, I think, but it is an interesting place to abandon your sense of security for an hour or two. Its bleak dystopic vision is probably enough to put everyone on best behaviour, but it's a thriller so it doesn't offer many moments of respite. I suspect there's a higher order of storytelling that allows for sunny spells of optimism, the heimlich, and everyday good humour. Superb jump-start chase sequence, all the same.
