Really the problem should be seen as a legitimacy deficit - how do we consciously design the processes, narratives and systems which generate legitimacy for institutions and respect for offices?
Idea for a boutique consultancy: a firm which explicitly recalibrates symbolic systems, cultivating reverence and fetishizing selected symbols. If we're ever asked what we've been up to we can tell people we've been doing a lot of symbolic work.
