Been catching up on US comedy these past days. Caddy Shack (1980) has aged really well. I thought there were two surprising things about it (apart from Cindy Morgan being trophied about as Lacey Underall) - the male synchronised swimming sequence for one (a surreal pageant for Underall's arrival by the pool); And the chat between Carl Spackler (Bill Murray) and Ty Webb (Chevy Chase). It's there near the end for no real reason, Webb's come in to Spackler's to find his ball and it's at least two kinds of crazy.

Watching Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) a hundred references people have made suddenly came into focus. Anchorman has lots of fun nostalgising "an age when only men were allowed to read the news". So it's an enjoyable rather than overly satirical comedy on the sexual mores of an age, just like... The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005). Could have been terrible, but in fact it's excellent. The co-worker banter might be the best thing about it - like Office Space set in Best Buy.
