With the return of foot and mouth in Surrey (again) there was Northern Ireland's agriculture minister Michelle Gildernew on the news promising to "put back into place the 'Fortress Ireland' approach that was so successful the last time". Fortress Ireland sounds good, but it's really just a 6 foot by 4 foot piece of matting before the baggage reclaim at Dublin airport. If that's a fortress my house is a castle. We will put back in place the large doormat.
