George Monbiot became a vegan 8 years ago because grain and water-intensive meat production would cause structural global famine. Last week, just as publicly, he renounced veganism in response to Simon Fairlie's book Meat: A Benign Extravagance. Monbiot's been persuaded we need to advocate for a less grain-fed meat industry, but the millenarianism's off.
