Idea for a product. Like the "salt" that's put on roads in snowy conditions, except that this chemical lowers the melting point of the resulting solution without changing its pH level. Car paint would last longer and the coloured dye improves accountability.

It seems that options on the table include (in roughly declining esotericism) sugar beet syrup, urea, finely ground glass, sand, ash, corn distillation byproducts; And potassium acetate and calcium magnesium acetate. Salt jeopardises ecosystems and drinking water, but it's cheap. Pepper might work. Or cinnamon. Why not sprinkle saffron on a measured stretch of snowy path? Once. Do it.
