Over the weekend three Guantanamo detainees did something that has rightly been condemned as both cynical and an act of asymmetrical warfare. They hanged themselves. This is so ungentlemanly. What's more, to commit suicide while being held indefinitely without charge undermines the whole spirit of the JTF Guantanamo ethos: "Honor bound to defend freedom". These guys just don't get it.

I think it's important to see this in the right terms and not lose sight of what's important in life. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Colleen Graffy, calls it like she sees it: "it certainly is [a] good PR move to draw attention." And camp commander, Rear Admiral Harry Harris explains: "I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetrical warfare waged against us."

Next weekend key members of 7th Special Forces Group will be stabbing themselves in the hand with a compass in a bid to destabilise more foreign governments.
