Never attempt to defeat the ground connection of the three-pronged plug.
This admonition comes from the instruction book for my new projector. (Delighted, by the way). My favourite excerpt follows - I think it might have been translated from the Japanese:
"If you press the elevator button without holding the projector, the projector might crash down, overturn, smash your fingers and possibly result in malfunction."
