Towards the end of the instruction manual for iPods, there's the following inscription:

"Listen responsibly."

But like some reckless fool, I've been listening to death metal.

    So, do we think this is intentional self-parody on the part of Apple or unintentional self-parody?

    Or is all our self-parody increasingly unintentional, internalised and forgotten as we grow older; leaving us but caricatures of our selves... ?

    Anyhoo, I think all these messages should come with a disclaimer:

    "Enjoy nannying in moderation"
